Dr Nicolas Galazis is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with accreditations among others in minimally invasive/laparoscopic surgery for complex gynaecological conditions, reproductive medicine (fertility treatment) and high-risk pregnancy care.
I graduated from the English School in Nicosia in 2005, and upon completion of my military service, I moved to the UK for my Medical Studies. I qualified as a doctor in 2012 and entered speciality training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) in 2014 at the most competitive O&G Specialty School of the UK, in West London. This includes posts in renown institutions such as the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (St Mary’s Hospital, Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital).
In 2019 and after passing rigorous examinations, I was awarded the prestigious title of Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG). In 2022, I gained the title of Master in Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery (Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery) from the University of Bologna in Italy. Moreover, the same year, I obtained my Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and was appointed a consultant gynaecologist at St Mary’s Hospital in London.
Over the years, I trained under international experts in my field and gained proficiency in the whole spectrum of O&G including advanced laparoscopic surgery for complex gynaecological disease (endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts), advanced gynaecological scanning, gynaecologic oncology as well as fertility treatments (IVF). Moreover, I gained the certification of “Advanced Labour Ward Practice” and have expertise in managing high-risk pregnancies, working in maternity units delivering over 5,000 babies a year.
I am the author of over 30 peer-reviewed publications indexed on Pubmed (the medical database that features high-quality scientific articles) and a book chapter on Endometriosis published by the Springer publishing house. I have been honoured to present my work in numerous high-impact international conferences discussing novel surgical techniques for the management of endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine myomas and subfertility. Aside of my medical expertise, I am extremely passionate in the training of my junior colleagues and have participated in various programmes to promote structured training in laparoscopic surgery.
As a clinician, my philosophy is to give my patients a holistic package in regards to their treatment options. I am a firm believer of working within a team to achieve the best outcomes for my patients. I also believe that patients should be able to make informed decisions in regards to their care and that clinicians should approach each patient with empathy and honesty. These are the principles and ethos I endeavour to follow in my daily practice as an obstetrician and gynaecologist.
