Dr Yiota Nicolaou

Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist

 

Dr Nicolaou qualified from Medical University of Hungary in 1999. She returned to Cyprus for 3 years where she worked in the busy acute wards of Nicosia General Hospital gaining huge experience in the management of acutely unwell patients. She then moved to Greece where she trained for a further 4 years in gastroenterology and hepatology working under the supervision of various distinguished professors.

Dr Nicolaou has a substantial teaching and research experience. She has trained junior doctors in the management of general medical and gastroenterological conditions as well as in various procedures like endoscopies. She obtained her PhD from the medical school of Athens University and has taken part and contributed to numerous conferences, scientific articles and presentations at national and international levels.

In addition, she has attended various courses in the UK where she has learned the latest endoscopic techniques. She is a member of the Hellenic and Cypriot societies of gastroenterology.

Her special interests include the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which essentially includes Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis and the management of chronic liver disease. She has also develop great procedural skills having undertaken more than 4500 upper GI endoscopies (gastroscopies or OGD), more than 3500 colonoscopies, around 350 polypectomies, around 50 banding ligations/endoscopic glue injections for gastro-oesophageal varices and around 150 endoscopic haemostases of bleeding peptic ulcers.
