Dr Efthymios Zisiopoulos

Dr. Efthymios Zisiopoulos is a specialist General, Gastrointestinal Surgeon and Colorectal Surgeon, trained in Düsseldorf, Germany, with expertise in advanced Minimally Invasive, Laparoscopic, and Robotic Surgery.

Dr. Zisiopoulos completed his medical education and training in Germany. He graduated from the Medical School of Sofia University in 2007. Subsequently, he was accepted into the German Higher Surgical Training program in the field of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery, with a special focus on colorectal surgery specialization, and worked in some of Germany's largest university hospitals.

Having completed all required Surgical Training prerequisites based on German legislation, with successful participation in all corresponding examinations, he was awarded the specialist title of Specialist General – Gastrointestinal Surgeon (Facharzt für Allgemein und Viszeralchirurgie) by the German Medical Association (Ärztekammer Nordrhein-Westfalen). Dr. Zisiopoulos also holds a Certificate of Recognition from the German Coloproctology Society, for his specialized interest in colorectal surgery.

He has successfully completed two postgraduate programs, acquiring master's degrees with excellence in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgical Practice, Advanced Robotic Surgical Practise, and Perioperative Care from the University of Strasbourg, France.

In 2016, he was appointed by the German National Health System as a permanent Specialist General, Gastrointestinal Surgeon in Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive General and Colorectal Surgery at the University Hospital of Krefeld, Germany (Helios Klinikum Krefeld).

During his tenure, he performed numerous laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures on patients with colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and proctological conditions, as well as on patients with diseases from the full spectrum of general surgery, such as abdominal hernias and gallstones, and Thyroid Gland disorders.

Through his 14 years of training and work experience in Germany, Dr. Zisiopoulos has gained significant experience, technical skill, and broad knowledge in the diagnosis, correct management, and treatment of all General and Gastrointestinal surgical diseases. He has performed thousands of diagnostic and therapeutic surgical procedures across all areas of Emergency and Planned Surgery, with a special interest in colon, rectal, and anal diseases.

Dr. Zisiopoulos is actively involved in research activity in his field, and has made a plethora of presentations at domestic and international conferences. He also participates with dedication and enthusiasm in undergraduate and postgraduate education at several Medical Schools in Germany, systematically teaching medical students and surgical residents.

Dr. Zisiopoulos is a member of the German Medical Association (Ärztekammer Nordrhein-Westfalen), the Hellenic Medical Association, and the Cyprus Medical Association, a member of the European Society of Surgery, a member of the German Society of Coloproctology (Chirurgische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Coloproktologie (CACP)), as well as the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP).

He holds first aid diplomas and has worked for 5 years as an Emergency Doctor on the Ambulances of the German Fire Service (Feuerwehr Rettungsdienst) and Helicopters (ADAC).
